Mission Statement: To provide English language skills and social support for the effective resettlement of adult refugees and immigrants in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Are you interested in people of other cultures?
If you lived in China, India or Thailand, how would you manage to answer the phone
or work out the road code? Do you have one hour a week to assist an adult immigrant with spoken and written English?
ESOL Home Tutors are adult volunteer New Zealanders who receive free training so that they can give 1:1 English language support to adult migrants. They do not have to speak another language. They focus on topics that increase confidence in everyday English speaking situations.
Social English GroupsEnglish for Mothers of Babies and Toddlers (MOBAT):
Two mornings a month for immigrant mothers and preschoolers.
English for Speakers of Chinese:
Two mornings a week for learners who can read or write Chinese.

Appointment of New Manager for ESOL Home Tutors (Dunedin)
Ethnic communities, languages, customs and how people participate in the larger community is something that personally interests Paul Naidu, the new manager of ESOL Home Tutors (Dunedin).
The committee is thrilled with the recent appointment of Paul Naidu, who immigrated to New Zealand from South Africa in 1999. Paul takes over from Margaret Bahr, who is retiring after 17 years with the centre, including 13 years as coordinator.
Paul trained as a teacher and in guidance and counselling in South Africa. Since arriving in New Zealand Paul has gained a TESOL qualification and worked in a variety of roles within the education, justice and community sectors. His most recent role was as a special projects team leader at the University of Otago.
An active member of the community, Paul is currently involved with Restorative Justice Otago, PARS Otago, Bowls Dunedin, the West Harbour Bowling Club and the Cancer Society in a variety of voluntary roles such as facilitator, committee member, tournament organiser and Daffodil Day coordinator.
Thanks to United Way New Zealand, for funding support in 2008.
