Certificate in ESOL Home Tutoring

 

Aim To train community volunteers as ESOL home tutors who will provide one-to-one English language and resettlement support to adults.

This is not a training course for teaching English overseas. This course carries with it an expectation that you will tutor a learner once a week for a period of at least six months, preferably a year.

Application
Application forms are available from the coordinators, Joy, Lyn, Jo and Vicki from the office at ESOL Home Tutors Christchurch (Inc).
All applicants are interviewed before acceptance on to the course.
The names and contact numbers of two referees will be required on application.
Consent for a police check will be requested.

Social English Groups
We have eight SEGs.

We have two on Mondays, one on Tuesdays, one on Wednesdays and four on Fridays during primary school terms. Classes are from 9.30am till 11.30am

Literacy classes
We run four four classes in partnership with Christchurch Resettlement Services. These classes are for learners who are preliterate in their first language.

All learners must be registered with the scheme to have their names on the waiting list. Learners need to visit our office to register.
